Deflowered was part of the yummy, all-girl extravaganza Snacks at Acme Gallery in San Francisco. The exhibition included works by Amy Berk, Nao Bustamante, Elenora Berkofsky, Kelly Cadwallader, Carolyn Castaño, Mary Doyle, Kris Force, Sidney Croskery, Heather Haynes, Val F. Russell, Marisa Hernandez, Annabel Lee, Jennifer Locke, Katey Rafanello, Hope Reyes, Stephanie Syjuco, Amber R. Tyler, Megan Wilson, and Helen Verhoeven.
Deflowered examined the obsession with beauty, aging, and substance in the world of the femme. Four sets of 24 freshly cut flowers were placed and sealed into jars containing water (restriction), oil (saturation), wine (inebriation), or air (deprivation). Over the course of time, the flowers transformed with age and the effects of the matter on their physicality.
